York Chess Club has a number of teams who compete in the York evening chess league. Players in the first division tend to be rated from 1650-2200, while the second division broadly ranges from 1200-1800.


Matches are played over six boards against teams representing other clubs and the university in York, as well as Scarborough and Malton. Games are played with a time control of 75mins per player + 10 second increment per move with roughly 12-16 games per season between September and April.
