York Chess Club has a number of teams who compete in the York evening chess league. Players in the first division tend to be rated from 1650-2200, while the second division broadly ranges from 1200-1800. Matches are played over six boards against teams representing other clubs and the university in York, as well as Scarborough and Malton. The York Club Championship runs from September to March each year. The tournament typically runs every Wednesday fortnight with one 'classical' game per evening. (If you can't make a particular session then you can rearrange with your opponent.) Our games allow for 75mins per player per game plus 10 seconds for each move you make, so lots of thinking time. Junior Chess club will restart on Wednesday 9th September. A mixture of coaching and social chess for 7-16 year olds from Ben Rich No need to pre-book - just turn up at 5.30pm (prompt). Club runs until 7pm and is pay on the door (cash). £4 per session, with a one-off Guppy's membership fee of a further £4.
